Sinopsis
La costra láctea es una afección cutánea común e inofensiva que afecta a los bebés, y que generalmente aparece dentro de las primeras semanas a meses de vida. Se caracteriza por placas amarillentas, grasosas y escamosas en el cuero cabelludo, aunque a veces puede extenderse a las orejas, los párpados u otras partes del cuerpo. A pesar de su apariencia descamativa y a veces costrosa, la costra láctea no es contagiosa, dolorosa ni produce picazón en la mayoría de los casos.
La causa exacta de la costra láctea no se comprende completamente, pero puede involucrar glándulas sebáceas (de aceite) hiperactivas estimuladas por las hormonas maternas transmitidas al bebé antes del nacimiento. También puede involucrar un desequilibrio de la levadura cutánea (Malassezia especies) y bacterias que viven en el cuero cabelludo.
