Trace minerals, such as zinc, selenium, copper, and manganese, play essential roles in various physiological processes, including those related to the stomach and digestive health. Scientifically, some trace minerals are involved in the production of digestive enzymes, maintenance of stomach lining integrity, and protection against oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract. For instance, zinc is required for the activity of numerous enzymes, some of which are crucial for the synthesis of stomach acid and for cellular repair mechanisms in the gastric mucosa. Deficiencies in certain trace minerals, particularly zinc and selenium, have been associated with impaired gastric function and increased susceptibility to gastrointestinal disorders in both animal and human studies. However, evidence supporting the routine use of trace mineral supplements specifically to “support” the stomach in otherwise healthy individuals is limited. Most of the scientific support comes from studies on deficiencies or specific disease states, rather than from supplementation in healthy populations. In summary, while there is a scientific basis for the importance of trace minerals in maintaining stomach health, the evidence supporting their supplemental use for general stomach support is moderate and context-dependent.
