Ginseng has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in East Asia, for promoting general vitality and health, including claims related to hair health. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Panax ginseng is believed to "nourish the blood" and improve circulation, which are thought to support hair growth and prevent hair loss. Some traditional practices also involve topical application of ginseng extracts or decoctions to the scalp as a remedy for thinning hair or alopecia.

However, scientific evidence specifically validating ginseng’s effects on hair growth or hair health in humans is limited. While a few laboratory and animal studies suggest that certain compounds in ginseng (such as ginsenosides) may stimulate hair follicle growth or have anti-inflammatory effects that could theoretically benefit the scalp, robust clinical trials in humans are lacking. The majority of support for ginseng’s use for hair is therefore based on traditional usage and anecdotal reports rather than strong scientific validation.

In summary, ginseng is traditionally used to support hair health, but scientific evidence remains preliminary and insufficient to firmly support its efficacy for this purpose.
