In these systems, it is commonly used to address symptoms associated with colds, such as fever, headache, and congestion. The roots and rhizomes are often prepared in decoctions or powders and administered as part of polyherbal formulations intended to "clear heat," "dispel wind," or restore balance during febrile illnesses.

Although nut grass is widely cited in traditional texts for its antipyretic (fever-reducing) and anti-inflammatory properties, the scientific evidence for its use against colds with fever remains limited.
