Several observational studies suggest that inadequate magnesium intake may be associated with increased risk of dental caries (tooth decay), as magnesium deficiency can contribute to weaker enamel and increased susceptibility to cavities.

However, direct interventional studies demonstrating that magnesium supplementation alone effectively prevents or treats tooth decay in otherwise healthy individuals are limited.
