Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has some scientific support for its role in supporting the testes and male reproductive health. Several animal studies have demonstrated that vitamin C acts as a potent antioxidant in testicular tissue, helping to protect sperm and Leydig cells from oxidative damage. Oxidative stress is known to impair spermatogenesis and testosterone production, and antioxidants such as vitamin C can help mitigate these effects.

Human studies are more limited but suggest a potential benefit. Clinical trials have shown that vitamin C supplementation can improve sperm count, motility, and morphology in men with infertility issues, likely due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress. For example, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that supplementation with 1000 mg of vitamin C twice daily significantly improved sperm quality parameters in infertile men. Additionally, vitamin C is necessary for the biosynthesis of collagen, which is important for the structure of seminiferous tubules in the testes.

However, while these findings are promising, the evidence is not universally strong or conclusive, and most studies focus on male infertility rather than general “testes health” in healthy populations. Further large-scale, high-quality human studies are needed to better define the role of vitamin C in supporting the testes.
