Zinc is scientifically validated as an essential mineral for supporting the structural system, particularly in relation to bone health and connective tissue. Zinc plays a critical role as a cofactor in numerous enzymatic processes involved in bone formation, collagen synthesis, and growth. Research demonstrates that zinc deficiency can result in impaired bone growth, delayed skeletal maturation, and decreased bone density. Several animal and human studies have shown that adequate zinc intake is associated with increased bone mineral density and that zinc supplementation may help prevent bone loss, especially in populations at risk for deficiency (such as the elderly and individuals with malabsorption disorders).

Furthermore, zinc is necessary for the activity of alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme important for bone mineralization. Epidemiological studies have identified correlations between low zinc status and osteoporosis or increased fracture risk. While calcium and vitamin D are more prominently emphasized in bone health, zinc's contribution is recognized in both clinical guidelines and basic science literature. However, the evidence is not as robust as it is for calcium and vitamin D, and supplementation beyond the recommended dietary allowance has not been consistently shown to confer additional benefit in individuals with adequate zinc status.
