Chickweed (Stellaria media) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly within Western herbalism and some forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In TCM, chickweed is considered to have cooling and moistening properties, and it is sometimes used to "clear heat" and address conditions associated with inflammation or dryness. However, the specific connection between chickweed and direct support for the Spleen body system (as understood in TCM, where the Spleen is related to digestion and the transformation of food into energy) is not strongly emphasized in primary traditional texts. Most references to chickweed in Western herbalism focus on its external use for skin conditions or its mild diuretic and soothing effects when taken internally.

There is little to no scientific research validating chickweed’s effects on the Spleen either in the anatomical/physiological sense (as recognized in Western medicine) or in the energetic sense described in TCM.
