Magnesium is sometimes used to support or treat numbness, particularly when the numbness is associated with magnesium deficiency or certain neurological conditions. The scientific evidence for magnesium’s effectiveness in treating numbness specifically is limited but present in certain contexts. Magnesium is essential for nerve function, and deficiency can lead to neurological symptoms, including numbness, tingling, and muscle cramps. Clinical case reports and small studies have documented improvement in numbness and paresthesia after magnesium supplementation in patients with proven deficiency, such as those with malabsorption syndromes, alcoholism, or prolonged use of diuretics.

However, for the general population or for cases of numbness not related to magnesium deficiency, evidence supporting routine magnesium supplementation is lacking. Most high-quality randomized controlled trials have focused on magnesium’s roles in migraine, muscle cramps, and cardiovascular health, with numbness receiving less direct attention.
