Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), also known as Chinese date, has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and other traditional healing systems. In TCM, jujube is valued for its ability to "harmonize" the stomach, calm the mind, and tonify the spleen and qi. It is frequently included in herbal formulas intended to alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort, including nausea and vomiting, particularly when these symptoms are associated with digestive weakness or imbalance. The fruit is believed to have gentle, nourishing effects and is often paired with other herbs to moderate their harshness and support digestive health.

However, when examining modern scientific literature, there is limited direct evidence supporting jujube's efficacy specifically for nausea and vomiting. Most contemporary research on jujube focuses on its antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and neuroprotective properties, as well as potential benefits for insomnia, anxiety, and gastrointestinal protection. While some animal studies suggest jujube extracts may have gastroprotective effects that could theoretically help with nausea, there is a lack of high-quality clinical trials confirming these benefits in humans for this specific indication. As such, its use for nausea and vomiting is best described as traditional, with weak scientific backing.
