Relora® is a proprietary blend of extracts from Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense, marketed primarily as a dietary supplement to reduce stress and support mood balance. The rationale for its use in mood swings is based on its purported ability to regulate cortisol levels and modulate stress responses. Several small-scale clinical studies and animal research suggest that Relora® may help reduce perceived stress, anxiety, and transitory mood disturbances. For example, a randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (2008) found that Relora® supplementation reduced cortisol exposure and improved mood state in moderately stressed subjects. Other studies have reported similar reductions in anxiety and improvements in subjective well-being.

However, evidence specifically addressing mood swings—as distinct from general mood, stress, or anxiety—is limited. Most studies focus on stress or anxiety outcomes, and sample sizes are often small, with short study durations. There is a lack of large, high-quality, long-term clinical trials directly evaluating Relora® for mood swings in diverse populations or in those with clinically diagnosed mood disorders. Thus, while there is some preliminary scientific support for Relora® in promoting mood balance and reducing stress, the direct evidence for its effectiveness in managing mood swings is modest and warrants further research.
