Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) is a family of growth factors involved in angiogenesis, wound healing, and embryonic development. Scientific research, particularly in animal models and preclinical studies, has demonstrated that certain FGFs—most notably FGF2 and FGF10—play significant roles in lung development, repair, and regeneration. For example, FGF10 is essential for lung branching morphogenesis during embryogenesis, while FGF2 can stimulate alveolar epithelial cell proliferation and enhance recovery following lung injury. Some studies have also explored the therapeutic potential of FGFs in treating lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis and acute lung injury, showing positive effects in tissue regeneration and inflammation reduction.

However, clinical evidence in humans is limited, and FGF-based therapies are not yet standard treatments for lung conditions. Most available data comes from experimental studies rather than large-scale clinical trials. Therefore, while there is a scientific rationale and growing preclinical support for using FGFs to support lung health and repair, more robust human data are needed before their use can be fully endorsed in clinical practice.
