Evidence supporting the use of: Cynodon dactylon
For the health condition: Headache (general)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Cynodon dactylon (commonly known as Bermuda grass) has been used in traditional systems of medicine, particularly in Ayurveda and folk remedies, to address a variety of ailments, including headaches. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys indicate that preparations made from its leaves or juice have sometimes been applied as poultices or consumed to relieve headache symptoms. However, the traditional use is not strongly emphasized in primary Ayurvedic treatises; references are mostly found in regional or folk traditions.
Despite its traditional use, there is a lack of robust scientific evidence directly supporting the efficacy of Cynodon dactylon for headache management. Most contemporary research on this plant has focused on its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, with little to no studies specifically investigating its effects on headaches or the underlying mechanisms relevant to headache relief. Therefore, while there is some traditional precedent for its use, this is weak and not corroborated by clinical trials or pharmacological studies targeting headache. The evidence rating is low due to this lack of direct research and limited documentation in authoritative traditional sources.
