Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) has traditionally been used in various systems of herbal medicine, including European folk remedies and aromatherapy, for a range of conditions such as circulatory issues, coughs, and muscle pain. In some traditions, cypress essential oil and plant extracts have been applied topically or used in compresses to help with swollen lymph glands, based on the belief that its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties may assist lymphatic drainage. However, these uses are largely anecdotal and not standardized across all herbal medicine traditions.

There is very limited scientific evidence to support the use of cypress for the treatment of swollen lymph glands. No clinical trials or robust pharmacological studies directly link cypress to lymphatic health or the reduction of lymphadenopathy. The available evidence consists primarily of traditional use and theoretical mechanisms, such as the potential for essential oils to stimulate circulation or reduce inflammation, but these are not substantiated by controlled studies. As such, the evidence rating is 1, reflecting primarily historical or traditional usage with minimal to no scientific validation.
