Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Bee propolis has a long history of use in traditional medicine for its purported immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties. In folk remedies, it has been applied to a variety of ailments, including sore throats, infections, and swelling, with the belief that it might help support healthy lymph glands or reduce swelling of lymph nodes. However, scientific research specifically addressing bee propolis for the treatment or support of swollen lymph glands (lymphadenopathy) is minimal or lacking. Most available studies focus on propolis’s general antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects, which are largely demonstrated in vitro or in animal models. These properties theoretically could support immune function, but there is no direct clinical evidence that propolis effectively treats swollen lymph nodes in humans. Therefore, its use for “glands” or swollen lymph is primarily rooted in traditional and anecdotal practices rather than rigorous scientific validation.
