Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Albizia species, especially Albizia lebbeck and Albizia julibrissin, have a history of use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and folk remedies in various parts of Asia. In these systems, Albizia is sometimes employed to address issues related to "swollen glands," which are generally understood to refer to enlarged lymph nodes, often as a result of infection or immune response. In Ayurveda, Albizia bark and flowers are used for their purported anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties, and are sometimes recommended for conditions involving swelling or lymphatic congestion. In TCM, Albizia is occasionally used to "dispel swelling" and promote the movement of qi, though its primary indications are more often related to mood and sleep.

However, scientific validation for Albizia’s use specifically in treating swollen lymph glands is minimal. While some laboratory studies have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of Albizia extracts, these findings are preliminary and have not been directly linked to clinical outcomes for lymphadenopathy in humans. No robust clinical trials exist that support its efficacy for this specific indication. As such, the use of Albizia for swollen glands is primarily rooted in traditional practices rather than scientific evidence.
