Cinchona bark has a well-documented history of use in treating fever, particularly fevers associated with malaria. Its effectiveness is due to its content of quinine and related alkaloids, which have antipyretic (fever-reducing) and antimalarial properties. Historically, the indigenous peoples of South America used Cinchona bark to treat fevers long before European discovery.
