Evidence supporting the use of: Aloe vera
For the health condition: Fever
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Aloe vera has been traditionally used in various cultures to help reduce fever, mainly due to its reputed cooling properties and its ability to soothe inflammation. Historical records indicate that aloe vera gel or pulp was sometimes applied to the skin to help bring down body temperature or soothe discomfort from fever, especially in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and some indigenous practices in Africa and the Middle East. The rationale behind this use is largely based on aloe vera’s cooling sensation and its anti-inflammatory effects when applied topically.
However, scientific evidence supporting the use of aloe vera for fever is minimal. Most modern studies focus on aloe vera’s benefits for skin conditions, wound healing, and, to a lesser extent, digestive health. There is a lack of clinical trials or robust research demonstrating that aloe vera, whether applied topically or ingested, has a significant impact on reducing fever in humans. The evidence that does exist is largely anecdotal or based on traditional use rather than on validated scientific studies. Therefore, while aloe vera may have a place in traditional fever remedies, its use for this purpose is not supported by strong scientific data.
