Preclinical studies, including in vitro and animal research, suggest that certain polyphenols (such as those found in green tea, resveratrol from grapes, and curcumin from turmeric) may reduce inflammation, modulate immune responses, and improve skin barrier function. Small clinical studies and pilot trials have examined topical and oral polyphenol formulations in eczema patients, with some reporting modest improvements in symptoms such as itching, redness, and skin hydration. However, the evidence base remains limited, with few high-quality, large-scale randomized controlled trials specifically assessing "polyphenols" as a category or in standardized formulations for eczema. Most scientific support pertains to specific polyphenols rather than the broad, unspecified group.
