Historical Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita mention Belleric as a component of formulations like "Triphala," which is believed to aid in digestion and relieve gastrointestinal discomfort. The fruit is thought to possess carminative, laxative, and astringent properties, which may contribute to its traditional use in relieving symptoms of dyspepsia such as bloating, flatulence, and mild digestive upset.

Despite its widespread traditional use, the scientific evidence specifically supporting Belleric for dyspepsia is limited. A few in vitro and animal studies suggest potential gastroprotective and antioxidant effects, but these are not directly focused on clinical outcomes in human dyspepsia. There are no robust, high-quality clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of Belleric alone for dyspepsia in humans.
