Bee propolis has been studied for its potential benefits in the treatment of burns and scalds, with several scientific investigations supporting its efficacy. Propolis is a resinous compound produced by bees, rich in flavonoids and phenolic acids, which are known for their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Clinical and preclinical studies have indicated that propolis can accelerate wound healing, reduce inflammation, and help prevent infection in burn wounds. For example, a randomized controlled trial published in Burns (2009) showed that topical application of propolis ointment promoted faster healing of minor burns compared to silver sulfadiazine, a standard topical agent. Animal studies have also demonstrated enhanced re-epithelialization and decreased microbial colonization in burn wounds treated with propolis extracts.

Despite these promising findings, the overall body of evidence remains moderate. The number of high-quality, large-scale human clinical trials is limited, and there is variability in the formulations and concentrations of propolis used in different studies. Therefore, while there is scientific support for the use of bee propolis in managing burns and scalds, further research is warranted to standardize its application and confirm its effectiveness.
