Jessica's Sticktight (Desmodium spp.) has a history of use in traditional medicine for a variety of skin ailments, including boils. Ethnobotanical records from various regions, particularly in Africa and Asia, document the application of poultices or decoctions made from Desmodium species to treat skin infections, abscesses, and boils. The justification for its use is largely based on anecdotal evidence and the accumulated knowledge of traditional healers who have observed symptomatic relief following its application. There is some support for the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of Desmodium leaf extracts in laboratory studies, but these studies are limited and have not specifically addressed the treatment of boils.
