Hemp (Cannabis sativa) has a long history of use in traditional medicine across various cultures, including traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, and European herbal medicine. In these traditions, hemp seeds, oil, and sometimes leaves were applied externally or ingested for a range of skin conditions, including boils, due to their perceived anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. However, scientific research specifically investigating the efficacy of hemp or its derivatives in the treatment of boils (furuncles) is extremely limited and largely anecdotal. There are no well-documented clinical trials or robust pharmacological studies supporting the use of hemp for this specific condition. Some of the traditional rationale may relate to the general emollient and anti-inflammatory effects of hemp seed oil, which could theoretically support skin healing and comfort, but this falls short of substantiated evidence for treating boils, which are bacterial infections of hair follicles. Modern guidelines for boils focus on antibacterial treatments and drainage rather than herbal remedies.
