Amor seco is a common name used for several plant species, most notably Desmodium adscendens and Bidens pilosa, depending on the region. In traditional medicine, particularly in parts of Latin America and Africa, preparations from Amor seco have been used to treat a variety of ailments, including inflammatory conditions and pain such as backache. The rationale for its use is based on the plant's reported anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties in folk medicine. However, while there are some studies on anti-inflammatory effects of related species, there is currently very limited direct scientific evidence specifically validating its efficacy for backache. The majority of available support comes from ethnobotanical surveys and accounts of traditional healers.
