Synopsis

Rating (out of 5): 2

Relora® is a proprietary blend of extracts from Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense. It is marketed primarily as a supplement to reduce stress and support weight management, particularly by addressing stress-related eating and appetite regulation. The rationale for its use in managing excessive appetite is based on its purported ability to lower cortisol levels and alleviate stress, which may indirectly reduce stress-induced overeating.

A handful of clinical studies have investigated Relora®'s effects on stress and eating behavior. For example, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in 2006 (Talbott et al., Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition) found that Relora® supplementation over six weeks significantly reduced cortisol levels and self-reported feelings of stress, and subjects taking Relora® reported less perceived stress-related eating compared to placebo. However, the study's primary endpoints were stress and cortisol, with appetite measures being secondary and based on subjective reporting.

Overall, while preliminary research suggests Relora® may help reduce stress and, by extension, stress-related appetite, the evidence is limited by small sample sizes, short durations, and a reliance on subjective outcomes. There is not yet robust, high-quality evidence directly demonstrating a significant reduction in excessive appetite or long-term weight loss. Thus, scientific support exists but is modest and not yet definitive.
