Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Spearmint leaf (Mentha spicata) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, primarily for digestive and respiratory complaints. Its application for supporting the adrenal glands, however, is not prominent in major herbal traditions. In some contemporary herbalism circles, spearmint is occasionally mentioned as a gentle tonic that may help with stress due to its calming effects, which could theoretically support the adrenal glands indirectly by reducing stress-induced cortisol production. Nevertheless, there are no substantial references in traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, or Western herbalism that identify spearmint as a specific adrenal support herb.

Scientifically, research on spearmint focuses largely on its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and mild sedative properties. No direct studies demonstrate a clear effect of spearmint on adrenal gland function, cortisol regulation, or support during adrenal fatigue. Thus, while spearmint may be used in blends intended for general stress reduction, its use for direct adrenal support is based more on tradition and extrapolation than on solid evidence. The rating is 1 because there is some weak traditional support but little specificity or scientific validation for adrenal health.
