Prickly ash (Zanthoxylum spp.) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly within Native American and Chinese medical systems. For acid indigestion and related digestive complaints, prickly ash bark was historically used as a “warming” and “stimulating” remedy, believed to enhance saliva and gastric secretions, improve circulation to the digestive tract, and relieve symptoms such as bloating and discomfort.
