In TCM theory, astragalus is commonly used to "strengthen the Spleen and Stomach," which are considered crucial for digestion and energy production. Traditional practitioners use astragalus to address symptoms such as fatigue, poor appetite, and digestive weakness, which are interpreted as signs of a deficient Spleen/Stomach system. The root is often included in herbal formulas intended to boost energy (qi) and support overall digestive health.

From a scientific perspective, most research on astragalus has focused on its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and adaptogenic effects, rather than specific benefits for the stomach or digestive health. There is limited clinical evidence directly supporting astragalus for stomach function or gastrointestinal disorders in humans.
