Folk medicine often employed nettle—both topically and as a tea or supplement—based on its perceived anti-inflammatory and blood-purifying properties. The herb contains compounds like flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lignans, all of which have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in laboratory studies. However, direct scientific evidence supporting the use of nettle specifically for psoriasis is limited and largely anecdotal. Some small studies and case reports suggest that nettle's anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory actions could theoretically help reduce the redness, scaling, and discomfort associated with psoriasis, but robust clinical trials are lacking.
