Relora® is a proprietary blend of extracts from Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense. Its primary marketed use relates to stress reduction, anxiety, and possibly the regulation of cortisol levels. While Relora® is not traditionally used for PMS (premenstrual syndrome) in herbal medicine, some recent clinical studies have explored its potential benefits for PMS symptoms, mainly due to its effects on mood and stress.

A small number of randomized, placebo-controlled trials and open-label studies suggest Relora® may reduce stress, anxiety, and irritability—symptoms that can be prominent in PMS. One pilot study found that women taking Relora® reported reductions in negative mood, anxiety, and stress compared to placebo, which could indirectly benefit PMS sufferers. However, direct studies specifically targeting PMS symptoms are very limited, and most research focuses on general stress or mood improvement rather than the full spectrum of PMS symptoms (such as bloating, breast tenderness, or specific menstrual pain).

Overall, the evidence supporting Relora® for PMS is preliminary and based on its ability to address some mood-related symptoms common to PMS, rather than robust, direct clinical validation for the full range of PMS symptoms. More and larger trials are needed to establish its effectiveness specifically for PMS. Currently, the use of Relora® for PMS is justified more by early scientific interest and indirect findings than by traditional use or strong clinical validation.
