Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is used to support and treat nausea and vomiting, particularly in pregnancy (commonly referred to as "morning sickness"). There is strong scientific evidence backing its efficacy in this context. Several randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses have demonstrated that vitamin B6 supplementation significantly reduces the severity of nausea and episodes of vomiting in pregnant women compared to placebo. For example, a well-cited double-blind, randomized study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1991) showed that 30 mg of vitamin B6 daily over 5 days led to significant reduction in nausea and vomiting symptoms.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends vitamin B6 as a first-line therapy for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Its mechanism of action is not fully understood but is thought to involve modulation of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, possibly affecting the chemoreceptor trigger zone that induces vomiting.

Outside of pregnancy, the evidence for vitamin B6 in treating nausea and vomiting is less robust, but it is sometimes used in other settings (such as with certain medications that induce nausea). Most data, however, pertains to its use during pregnancy. Overall, the scientific consensus supports the use of vitamin B6 for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, with a favorable safety profile at recommended doses.
