Pulsatilla, derived from the plant Pulsatilla nigricans (also known as pasque flower), has a long history of use in traditional herbal and homeopathic medicine, particularly in Europe. In homeopathy, Pulsatilla is commonly recommended for various ailments, including headache, especially those described as shifting, throbbing, or associated with hormonal changes in women. The traditional use is based on symptom patterns observed and codified by homeopaths rather than clinical trials or pharmacological research.

There is, however, a lack of robust scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of Pulsatilla for treating general headache.
