Zinc is scientifically recognized as an essential trace element necessary for the proper function of the endocrine (glandular) system. It plays a fundamental role in hormone synthesis, secretion, and regulation. For example, zinc is crucial for the synthesis and activity of thyroid hormones, insulin production in the pancreas, and the function of sex glands (testes and ovaries), influencing testosterone and estrogen levels. Numerous studies have demonstrated that zinc deficiency can result in impaired thyroid function, reduced fertility, and altered immune responses, all of which are connected to glandular health. A review in the journal Biological Trace Element Research (2018) highlights zinc’s involvement in the regulation of over 300 enzymes and multiple hormonal pathways. Additionally, zinc supplementation has been shown to restore normal hormone levels in deficient individuals, particularly in cases of hypogonadism or thyroid dysfunction. However, evidence is stronger in populations with established zinc deficiency; benefits for individuals with adequate zinc levels are less clear. Overall, the use of zinc to support the glandular system is well-supported by scientific literature, especially in addressing or preventing deficiencies that could impair glandular (endocrine) function.
