Jojoba oil is used in skincare, including for the management of wrinkles, primarily due to its moisturizing and emollient properties. Scientifically, jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) is a liquid wax ester that closely resembles human sebum, making it highly biocompatible with the skin. Several studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in enhancing skin hydration and barrier function (Ranzato et al., 2011; Habashy et al., 2005). These moisturizing effects can temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by plumping the skin and improving its suppleness. Additionally, jojoba oil contains vitamin E and various fatty acids, which have antioxidant properties that might help protect the skin from oxidative stress—a factor involved in skin aging.

However, direct scientific evidence that jojoba oil can treat or significantly reverse wrinkles is limited. Most available studies focus on its general skin-soothing, moisturizing, and barrier-repairing effects, rather than on anti-wrinkle efficacy specifically. There are no large, high-quality clinical trials showing a reduction in wrinkle depth or number after jojoba oil application. Therefore, while there is some scientific rationale for its use in supporting overall skin health and temporarily improving the appearance of wrinkles via hydration, claims regarding its effectiveness for treating wrinkles should be considered modest and primarily indirect.
