Evidence supporting the use of: Rose
For the body system: Uterus
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Rose (Rosa spp.), particularly in the form of rose petals, rose water, or rose essential oil, has a long history of use in traditional systems of medicine such as Unani, Ayurveda, and Persian medicine for supporting women's reproductive health, including the uterus. Traditional texts describe rose as a tonic for the female reproductive system, used to relieve menstrual discomfort, balance emotions related to the menstrual cycle, and sometimes to address excessive uterine bleeding. These uses are often attributed to rose’s reputed anti-inflammatory, cooling, and astringent properties.
However, there is limited scientific research directly examining the effects of rose on uterine health. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest that rose extracts may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, but these findings are not specific to the uterus nor are they robustly translated into clinical trials involving women’s reproductive health. Most of the support for rose in this context is based on tradition rather than direct scientific validation. Overall, while rose is widely used in traditional medicine for uterine and menstrual concerns, there is insufficient modern clinical evidence to strongly support these uses.
