Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Cherokee Rose (Rosa laevigata) has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and some Native American traditions, including among the Cherokee people. In TCM, the fruit of the Cherokee Rose (called "jin ying zi") is used to "stabilize the kidneys and secure essence," which includes applications for conditions related to excessive uterine bleeding, vaginal discharge, and to support the reproductive system in general. However, the majority of references to Cherokee Rose in relation to the uterus come from TCM texts rather than Western herbal traditions or modern scientific literature. There is very limited clinical research specifically investigating Cherokee Rose’s effects on the uterus, with most evidence being anecdotal or based on practitioner experience within TCM. As such, while its use for uterine support is firmly rooted in tradition, scientific validation is sparse or lacking. The overall evidence rating is moderate because of its established role in traditional practices, but a lack of robust clinical data limits a higher rating.
