Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Astragalus membranaceus has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a tonic herb, primarily valued for its ability to strengthen "qi" (vital energy) and support overall vitality. In TCM, Astragalus is sometimes included in formulas intended to support women’s health, particularly to help with fatigue, recovery after childbirth, or to complement other herbs in formulas aimed at reproductive health. However, its direct use specifically for the uterus or uterine health is not a primary or widespread application, either in traditional or modern herbal medicine. There is minimal direct scientific research investigating Astragalus for uterine support or gynecological health. Most available studies on Astragalus focus on its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and adaptogenic properties. While these actions may provide general health benefits that could indirectly affect reproductive health, there is no substantial evidence—clinical or preclinical—linking Astragalus specifically to uterine support. Thus, its use in this context is primarily rooted in tradition rather than scientific validation, and the evidence for direct uterine support is weak.
