Ovate Buchu (Agathosma ovata) has a long history of traditional use, primarily in South African herbal medicine, for supporting the urinary system. Indigenous Khoisan people and later European settlers used buchu leaves as a remedy for urinary tract discomforts, including mild infections, cystitis, and kidney concerns. The leaves were commonly prepared as teas or tinctures. Buchu’s traditional use is attributed to its content of volatile oils such as diosphenol, which are believed to possess mild antiseptic and diuretic properties.
