Embelia, particularly the species Embelia ribes (commonly known as Vidanga), has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. While it is most famous for its anthelmintic (anti-parasitic) properties, some traditional texts and practitioners have also utilized Embelia for supporting urinary health. In Ayurveda, it is sometimes employed to address issues like urinary tract infections and to promote the elimination of toxins via the urinary system, often as part of polyherbal formulations. However, the majority of these uses are based on traditional knowledge rather than rigorous scientific validation.

Currently, scientific studies on Embelia’s effectiveness specifically for urinary system support are extremely limited. Most research to date has focused on its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiparasitic activities, with little direct evidence relating to urinary tract health. Thus, while there is a traditional precedent for its inclusion in remedies targeting the urinary system, robust clinical trials or pharmacological studies confirming its efficacy for this purpose are lacking.
