The dried fruit, known as "Mu Gua" in traditional Chinese medicine, is reputed to "harmonize the stomach" and relieve pain, though its primary uses are for muscle cramps and joint pain. Historical texts and materia medica record its use for "stomach pain" and "vomiting," but not specifically for gastric or duodenal ulcers as defined in modern medicine. Nevertheless, the broader application to digestive discomfort has led to its occasional inclusion in herbal formulas for gastrointestinal issues, including ulcers, within traditional practice.
There is limited scientific research on flowering quince for ulcers.
