Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Asshide Glue, also known as donkey-hide gelatin or "Ejiao," has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is primarily used for its reputed abilities to nourish blood, stop bleeding, and promote tissue regeneration. In the context of external ulcerations or non-healing wounds, historical medical texts and traditional practitioners recommend its topical or oral use to "tonify blood" and accelerate healing, based on the theory that improved blood quality and circulation can enhance the body's self-healing abilities. However, while there is some ethnomedical documentation and case reports supporting its use in treating external ulcers and wounds, robust scientific validation is lacking. There are only a handful of modern preclinical studies (mostly in animals or in vitro) that suggest Asshide Glue may have anti-inflammatory or tissue-repairing properties, but these are not directly focused on ulcerations, nor are they sufficient to establish clear efficacy. Thus, current evidence supporting its use for external ulcerations is primarily traditional, with minimal scientific support to date.
