Tetradecylthioacetic acid (TTA) is a synthetic fatty acid analog that has been investigated primarily in preclinical and some early clinical studies for its potential lipid-lowering effects, including the reduction of triglycerides. The mechanism of action of TTA is thought to involve the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), particularly PPAR-alpha, which play a key role in lipid metabolism. Animal studies have consistently shown that TTA lowers plasma triglyceride levels, improves lipid profiles, and modulates fatty acid oxidation. Early-phase clinical trials in humans have also reported reductions in serum triglycerides and improvements in other markers of lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic patients, although the sample sizes have been small and the studies relatively short in duration.

Despite these promising findings, the evidence base is still limited. There are no large-scale, long-term randomized controlled trials demonstrating definitive efficacy or safety for the use of TTA in treating high triglycerides. Furthermore, TTA is not widely approved or marketed as a therapeutic agent for hypertriglyceridemia. Thus, while there is some scientific validation for its lipid-lowering effects, the strength of the evidence is modest. It should also be noted that TTA is not a traditional remedy, nor is it widely used in clinical practice for this indication at present.
