Grape, particularly in the form of grape seed extract and grape polyphenols (such as resveratrol), has been investigated for its potential benefits in managing high triglyceride levels. Several clinical and preclinical studies suggest that grape-derived polyphenols may help reduce triglycerides and improve lipid profiles. The proposed mechanisms include antioxidant effects, improved endothelial function, and modulation of enzymes related to lipid metabolism. For example, some human trials have shown that consumption of grape seed extract or grape juice can lead to modest decreases in triglyceride levels, especially in individuals with metabolic syndrome or cardiovascular risk factors.
Meta-analyses indicate a small but statistically significant reduction in triglycerides with grape polyphenol supplementation, though results are not always consistent. The evidence is stronger in populations with pre-existing metabolic disturbances. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and other regulatory bodies do not officially endorse grape products specifically for triglyceride lowering, as more robust and long-term clinical trials are needed.
