Cordyceps, a genus of medicinal mushrooms, has been traditionally used in Chinese medicine for a variety of health conditions, including fatigue, kidney health, and longevity. More recently, research has explored its potential effects on lipid metabolism, including triglyceride levels. Several animal studies have suggested that Cordyceps extracts may help reduce elevated triglyceride levels, possibly by modulating hepatic lipid metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity, and exerting antioxidant effects. For example, studies in mice and rats fed a high-fat diet have shown reductions in serum triglycerides and improvements in overall lipid profiles after supplementation with Cordyceps or its active compounds such as cordycepin.

However, direct human clinical evidence remains limited. A few small-scale human studies and pilot trials have reported mild decreases in triglyceride levels with Cordyceps supplementation, but these studies are often short-term, involve small populations, and sometimes use Cordyceps in combination with other herbs or interventions, making it hard to attribute effects solely to Cordyceps. Systematic reviews have generally concluded that while preliminary evidence is promising, more robust, large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these effects and to determine appropriate dosing and safety.
