Blueberries have been studied for their potential effects on lipid profiles, including triglyceride levels. Some clinical trials and animal studies suggest that blueberry consumption may help reduce triglyceride concentrations, likely due to their rich content of anthocyanins, fiber, and other polyphenols with antioxidant properties. These compounds may improve lipid metabolism and reduce oxidative stress, which are factors linked to lower triglyceride levels. For example, a randomized controlled trial published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2015) found that daily blueberry supplementation in individuals with metabolic syndrome was associated with favorable changes in lipid profiles, including reductions in triglycerides, although the effects were modest.

That said, the overall scientific evidence is still limited and somewhat inconsistent. Some studies report no significant change in triglyceride levels after blueberry supplementation, and most positive findings are from small-scale or short-term studies. Larger, longer-term clinical trials are needed to confirm these effects and establish effective dosages. While blueberries are not a replacement for medical treatment, incorporating them as part of a healthy diet may offer some benefit for triglyceride management. However, the evidence does not yet strongly support the use of blueberries as a primary intervention for high triglycerides.
