Arabinoxylan, a type of hemicellulosic dietary fiber found in cereal grains (notably wheat bran), has some scientific evidence supporting its potential to help lower triglyceride levels. The proposed mechanism is related to its effects on lipid metabolism, particularly through the modulation of gut microbiota and the binding of bile acids, which may influence fat absorption and lipid profiles. Several animal studies and a small number of human clinical trials have investigated arabinoxylan supplementation for its metabolic benefits.

For example, a 2018 randomized controlled trial published in Nutrition Research found that supplementation with wheat arabinoxylan oligosaccharides improved postprandial triglyceride responses in overweight men. Other studies, primarily in animal models, have shown reductions in serum triglycerides as well as improvements in other lipid parameters after arabinoxylan administration. However, these effects are generally modest, and the overall quality and quantity of human clinical evidence remain limited. The mechanisms are thought to involve increased fermentation by colonic bacteria, production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, and altered lipid metabolism.

In summary, while there is preliminary scientific evidence suggesting a triglyceride-lowering effect of arabinoxylan, especially as part of a diet high in cereal fibers, the evidence is not robust. More high-quality, large-scale human trials are needed to confirm these benefits and to establish optimal dosages and long-term safety.
