Antler horn, often referred to as "deer antler velvet," has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and other Asian medical systems. Traditionally, it is valued as a tonic for vitality, longevity, and to support the body's response to stress, fatigue, and general weakness. The rationale behind its use for stress is largely rooted in its reputation for strengthening "Qi" (vital energy) and replenishing the body’s resources, which are thought to become depleted under stress. However, when it comes to scientific evidence, research on antler velvet’s direct effects on psychological or physiological stress in humans is minimal and inconclusive. Most studies focus on its potential effects on physical strength, immune function, or joint health rather than stress. A few animal and in vitro studies suggest adaptogenic or anti-fatigue properties, but these findings are preliminary and not directly translatable to clinical outcomes in humans. Therefore, while its use for managing stress is well-established in traditional medicine, there is a lack of robust scientific evidence to support its efficacy for this specific condition, resulting in a low evidence rating.
