Agastache urticifolia, commonly known as nettleleaf giant hyssop, has a history of traditional use among Native American groups in western North America. Ethnobotanical records indicate that various tribes, such as the Okanagan-Colville and the Paiute, prepared infusions or teas from the aerial parts of the plant to address symptoms associated with nervousness, anxiety, or general stress. The plant was sometimes used as a mild sedative or calming agent and was included in mixtures for ceremonial or therapeutic purposes.

However, there is little to no direct clinical or pharmacological evidence supporting its efficacy for stress relief. Scientific studies specifically investigating the anxiolytic or adaptogenic properties of Agastache urticifolia are lacking. The traditional use for calming effects may be attributed to the aromatic nature of the plant and its place in indigenous healing systems, but this has not been substantiated by controlled research. As such, its use for stress is supported by tradition rather than scientific validation, and the strength of evidence is low.
