Curcumin, the primary active compound in turmeric, has been used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for centuries. In these systems, turmeric is commonly employed to support the health of the digestive system, including the spleen. In TCM, the spleen is considered a critical organ for digestion and the transformation and transportation of nutrients. Herbalists often prescribe turmeric to "invigorate the blood" and "move qi" (energy), believed to support spleen function and alleviate conditions such as abdominal bloating or poor appetite associated with "Spleen Qi Deficiency."

However, from a scientific perspective, the direct link between curcumin and spleen health is not well-established. Most modern research on curcumin focuses on its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects, with studies in humans primarily examining outcomes related to inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, and certain cancers. While some animal studies suggest curcumin may modulate immune cell activity in the spleen, these findings are preliminary and not directly translatable to specific spleen support in humans. Thus, the use of curcumin to support the spleen is primarily based on traditional knowledge rather than robust scientific validation.
