Carqueja (Baccharis trimera) is a medicinal herb native to South America and widely used in traditional medicine, particularly in Brazil. Its use for supporting the spleen is primarily rooted in traditional herbal practices rather than robust scientific evidence. In folk medicine, Carqueja is believed to have hepatoprotective, digestive, and detoxifying properties, which are thought to indirectly support the spleen as part of the body’s broader digestive and immune systems. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys frequently mention Carqueja for ailments involving the liver, gallbladder, and general digestive health, with some references to its use in “cleansing the blood” or promoting spleen health.
